Tecnoseal at the 2018 Sydney International Boat Show

August has just begun, but for enthusiasts and companies in the sector, a level appointment is already on the horizon. In fact, It starts tomorrow, August 2 and will last until Sunday 5, in the International Convention & Exhibition Center of Darling Harbor, the 2018 edition of the Sydney International Boat Show, the most important nautical event in Australia and one of the most important in the entire southern hemisphere. A show that this year celebrates fifty years of activity!

01

The history of the SIBS begins in 1968. Until that year it was common for the boats to be exhibited as part of a motor show or at the Royal Easter Show. The SIBS was the first event in Australia entirely dedicated to the sector and for the next 17 years took place on land at the Horden Pavilion in Moore Park. It was in 1986 that a component in water was introduced for the first time with the transfer to Pyrmont. Despite the insufficient and shaky structures, the marine part was so successful that it proved decisive for the future of the event.
When the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center opened in 1989, the SIBS moved there immediately, due to its proximity to Cockle Bay, and stayed here for the next 25 years. In 2014, the center's maintenance work forced the boat show to move partly to Glebe Island. It was an inconvenient solution since he split the show in two, the "at sea" part remained in the popular Cockle Bay and the two places were connected by a ferry service. In 2017 finally the SIBS returned completely to Darling Harbor, in the place most suited to It, where he will catch foot this year.

2018 Schematic 1

As you can see from the map above, the event is divided on several floors. The sea side of the SIBS is entirely located in the quaint and near Cockle Bay while the land side is distributed halfway down to the lower floor and half to the higher level of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center. On the second floor there is the entrance with the ticket office while the third is left as an "open air" passage area.
The most spectacular part is certainly the bay where 250 boats of variable size and the most varied brands are placed. There are many representatives of Italian excellence such as: Azimut, Ferretti, Invictus, Italia Yacht, Monte Carlo, Oceanis, X-Yacht and many others. You can find a map of the exposed yachts (as well as other areas of the event) here.

Part of the exhibitors are arranged in the four halls that make up the lower floor. Here you can find many manufacturers of world-famous engines such as BRP, Honda, Mercury, Suzuki and Yamaha. There is also a small area entirely dedicated to fishing and located in the upper right corner on the map.
Much of the ground floor is, however, occupied by the Australia International Dive Expo, a fair in the fair entirely dedicated to diving and everything related to this fascinating world. At the center of the area there is even a large test pool, supervised by professional instructors, for those who want to approach this sport.

03

The bulk of the fair "on the ground", however, takes place on the highest floor. Here we not only find most of the exhibitors arranged in three halls, but also the huge Event Deck. This is an open space with two large swimming pools, the first will host water demonstrations of marine products of any type while the second will be entirely dedicated to kids. There is also a further exhibition of offshore boats, as well as fast boats for Ski Racing and the iconic Perry surf boats. On top of all, however, the Spirit of Australia II shines, a racing boat created by Warby Motorsport specifically to break the world speed on water record.
But the breathtaking view and the many outdoor activities are not enough, the special areas of the highest floor do not end here. There is in fact also a Boating Safety Zone, dedicated to safety at sea, and a Boating Development Stage, where the main professionals in the sector will present the latest technologies in the nautical field. Confirmed presentations include: Lisa Blair, the only woman to have sailed alone, non-stop and without assistance around Antarctica on a 184-day trip, Michelle Lee, who plans to row alone across the Atlantic in an adventure that could last three months for a total of 5371 kilometers, and Navico, a company specializing in innovation of marine electronics.

05

In this huge event Tecnoseal could not miss and will actively participate through its local distributors who will be present in the highest floor of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center. The appointment is therefore from 2 to 5 August at Darling Harbour.
While waiting for the party to start we just have to countdown the hours, perhaps looking in the meantime this fascinating video dedicated to the preparation of the Sydney International Boat Show that gives us an idea of the greatness and commitment required by what is the most important event in all of Australia.
