Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2018
Begin today, October 31st, and continue until Sunday, November 4th, the 2018 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the boat show unanimously recognized as the largest in the world. On the other hand, it is difficult to challenge this declaration given its extension of about 300.000 square meters. This space will now be occupied by 1500 boats and over 1200 exhibitors from 52 nations of the world.
The importance of FLIBS is not to be found only in its dimensions, but also in the relevance it has within the nautical market, especially for Italy. In fact, the United States is the first export destination for Made In Italy products as the world's leading market for the number of yachtsmen, boats produced and turnover generated by the sector.
The FLIBS therefore occupies a space to say the least enormous. The 300.000 square meters are divided into seven different locations: Bahia Mar Yachting Center, Hall of Fame Marina, Las Olas Marina, Greater Ft Lauderdale Convention Center, Sailfish Pavilion, Hilton Ft Lauderdale Marina, Pier 66 Marina. The map above can give you an idea of the greatness, but it only covers the Bahia Mar Yachting Center! You can find the others in the appropriate section of the site here. The various locations are connected by a transport system both by land and by sea.
The Bahia Mar Yachting Center is still the main event venue, which in turn is divided into seven thematic areas: in-water, engines, nautical accessories, electronics, marine equipment, superyachts, the American pavilion and an area for exhibitors that do not fall into the previous categories. The place is easily recognizable: it is that gathering of white tents surrounded by boats. The sea area of this location is in fact the largest of all and to orientate there is a further chromatic subdivision (you can see it clearly in the map above). There is no shortage of attractions on the ground as most of the exhibitors are located right here.
The Hall of Fame Marina owes its name to the International Swimming Hall Of Fame featured in the location. It is a luxury area that includes the prestigious Windward VIP Club and is located in the heart of the salon. The Greater Ft Lauderdale Convention Center is, on the contrary, a place open to all, the theater of most of the scheduled events, open to people of all ages. If this is not enough for you, it all extends to the nearby Sailfish Pavilion.
Since the pontoons of the Baiha Mar area were not enough, the exposure at sea extends to three other locations dedicated almost entirely to brokers. The most prestigious is definitely the Pier 66 Marina which also includes numerous restaurants and clubs while the Hilton Ft Luaderdale Marina and the Las Olas Marina are more than other extensions of this (the first) and of the Bahia Mar Marina (the second).
The focus of the event is, as you will have understood, the boats. These are placed with extreme precision, surrounded by an impressive number of floating pontoons to better allow their vision to visitors. The total is constantly growing, but for now we are talking about 1500 yachts of various sizes and types. There will obviously be the main Italian shipyards that will participate with the best of their fleets.
A bit of boats to report: the elegant Ocean Alexander 90R with its structure full of windows; the entire Navetta fleet of Absolute Yachts and above all the Navetta 48; the Riva 88 Domino Super, the biggest yacht of the brand; the Grand Banks 60 Skylounge; the innovative Lejos3 of Benetti Yachts, at the American debut; the rapid Palm Beach GT50; the Azimut Atlantis 51 and the fast Pershing 9X.
However, the FLIBS will not be just boats. Ample space inside the fair is reserved for the various local restaurants and lounges that combine their different culinary experiences with shows and exhibitions at sea. Many areas are reserved for visitors who want to sit down to eat a bite and have a cocktail by the water, in the shade of some impressive superyacht.
In addition, as already mentioned, the Greater Ft Lauderdale Convention Center and the Sailfish Pavilion will include a variety of events and courses of all kinds and open to visitors of all ages. It ranges from fishing to diving through any other kind of water sports. Between the two structures there is even an area reserved for shows and tests of the most particular nautical vehicles, such as Fly board, hovercraft, seabob, etc.
Thanks to the work of Ucina - Confindustria Italiana, the Made In Italy boating, pride of our country, will have a strong representation inside the boat show. More than 30 Italian companies are participating in FLIBS and most of these will be gathered in booth 673,677 and 678 of the Superyacht Pavilion in the Bahia Mar Yachting Center. Among the companies present we have: Besenzoni, Frigomar, Navaltecnosud, Opacmare, Atep Italy, Austin Parker, CMC Marine, Gianneschi Pumps & Blowers, Overmarine, Monte Carlo Yachts, Pardo Yachts, Rossinavi, Sanlorenzo and ZAR Formenti.
In short, the FLIBS, now in its 59th edition, remains an absolutely unmissable event and, if you are in the area, you can not miss the opportunity to visit it. Pending the reports, photos and videos of this edition we leave you with a video of the 2017. You find it here.
