ANODE OF THE WEEK 07
This week's anode is another very distinctive Tecnoseal product that is used when your boat is moored. It takes care of protecting it when it is in a "rest" condition. To be used, it must obviously be lowered into the water at the time of mooring.
Its function is twofold. On the one hand it mitigate corrosion on the already installed and present anodes, thus reducing their wear when the boat is anchored to the dock. In this way the anodes will be consumed less in the case of a boat that does not sail often and there will be an extension of the life of the same that will translate into an economic saving.
Secondly, the suspended anodes protect the vessel from those external corrosion sources that are present during mooring, but not during navigation. Stray currents could come on board from other boats nearby or even from the pier itself in case there are large metal structures (like a chain that ends up in water) or work in progress (such as welding).
The suspended anodes have a "double" cable for an effective installation. The smaller terminal belongs to an electric cable and must be connected to the part of the boat to be protected (hull, engine, etc.) or in any case IN CONTINUITY with the other anodes installed on the boat. The larger hook, on the other hand, serves to support the weight of the anode which would otherwise end up damaging the electric cable and can be attached to any fixed support on the boat capable of supporting this weight.
These anodes, available in various shapes and sizes and in the three alloys (zinc, magnesium and aluminum), are therefore a precious addition that allows us to sleep peacefully without having to worry about what happens to our boat while it is moored.
