Anode of the Week 01
CUSTOM MADE ZINC COLLAR FOR OGIVE
Let's start this column with a very special anode. This is a custom piece made for a 2-meter diameter propeller belonging to a 65-meter motor yacht built by a well-known shipyard in Viareggio (LU).
Many prestigious yachts need special tailor-made anodes and Tecnoseal follows the sizing of the anodic mass, ie the calculation of how much anode requires the boat, the design of the shape and the final construction.
In fact, this type of form is used to limit problems of cavitation due to the fact that for certain types of propellers, if we put non-performing anodic masses, the angular velocity on the periphery would be such as to generate bubbles that would consume the anode in an inappropriate manner giving imbalances to the system's center of gravity.
To carry out an anode of this kind, the intervention of various departments is necessary. First of all, we need a design of the mold which will be used in the first phase, that of casting the raw piece. This is a very delicate phase because the anode must be free of blowholes or internal cavities generated by air bubbles that would make it structurally fragile. Then there will be a second phase where specialized staff will program a CNC machine that will take care of finishing the piece in its details to make it suitable for the final installation. Throughout the process, a series of checks will be carried out to verify the eligibility of the anodic alloy according to the international specifications on cathodic protection.
The result is another excellent Tecnoseal brand product. You put the dream on us and we protect it.
